Buying Guide

What to look for before you buy.

  • A UMF™ rating on the label

It's the only independently verified way to know the strength — and the honesty — of what's inside the jar.

  • Confirmation it's monofloral

Genuine mānuka honey isn't a blend. UMF certification confirms single-source origin, not a mixed floral honey.

  • New Zealand origin, stated plainly

Mānuka only grows here. Any jar without a clear NZ origin claim deserves a second look.

  • A higher number for a reason

The higher the UMF rating, the more MGO present — match the grade to what you actually need it for.

Not All Honey Is Honest

"Mānuka honey" isn't always mānuka honey.

Mānuka honey is widely sold online and in health stores — but not every jar is telling the truth. Without independent testing, a label is just a claim. The UMF™ Four Factor test exists to verify it, batch by batch.

Buyer Verification

Four checks before you trust a jar.

1
UMF™ Quality Mark

This is the certification itself — without it, a rating is just a claim.

2
A Stated UMF™ Rating

The only independent measurement of multiple health and quality factors.

3
Product of New Zealand

Genuine mānuka honey is packed and sealed in New Zealand.

4
Verify the Licence Number

Every label carries a licence number, checkable directly at umf.org.nz.
